Haunting portraits show Marines before, during and after service in Afghanistan
While the pictures – of Dutch Marines before, during and after deployment in Afghanistan – may not be shocking at first, they subtly hint at the soldiers' inner transformations. (from the source).
I see their faces are now different, but I can't say how. Too subtle for me, but I think you could explain what changed. And there are a lot of photographs to help to discern a pattern.

Thanks for sharing. There is a lot of stress in their faces afterwards...

There was something like this for British soldiers: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/picturegalleries/uknews/9013365/We-Are-Not-The-Dead-soldiers-faces-before-during-and-after-serving-in-Afghanistan.html
They are haunting images - very bleak faces in the "during" and "after."
