Mason Jenkins and the murder of his sister Jennifer Jenkins
This is a link to the trailer for a documentary called "Life with Murder":http://www.nfb.ca/film/life_with_murder_clip/
The case is a little old (the murder occurred in 1998), but the "facts" of the case continue to evolve. It's an absolutely gripping documentary, one which I think falls perfectly within your wheelhouse, and it is currently available on Netflix if you happen to have it. A brief synopsis follows:
"Chatham, Ontario, 1998. Eighteen-year-old Jennifer Jenkins is brutally shot to death by multiple rifle rounds in her family home. The main suspect: her brother, Mason Jenkins, who fled the scene of the crime. After fabricating a story about what occurred, Jenkins was incarcerated. His parents, facing the loss of both their children, chose to support his claims of innocence, repressing the dark secret of their son's true intentions. Concurrently shocking and heartbreaking, John Kastner's finely crafted mystery slowly reveals the many layers of a family dynamic that becomes its own enigma, drawing from a decade's worth of coverage, including police interrogation videos, home movies, and incredible interviews with Jenkins, his family, and the case's investigators."
Thanks for considering it.

His sentence is life. No chance of parole till 25. ...this does not mean he will ever be granted parole ...we can only hope he never does. He does not deserve freedom. He had to reload and shoot multiple times. That's no accident ...lucky for the parents. He panicked and fled. Or they possible would have met the same demise as Jennifer

I can't believe how the parents believe this idiot !!!! An accident is a single gun shot, not five with a reload each time.. Please !

It is so sad that even though his parents stand by him he still hasn't given them the whole truth about their daughter's murder. He has already killed his father. His mother is just trying to hold on to what family she has. He should never be released from prison.

Disgusting waste of skin. Robbed his poor parents of their entire livelihood and is not a bit sorry or remorseful for it. He portrays himself as the victim who will not have anyone in his life once his parents are gone... namely his sister. You killed her you fucktard and are extremely lucky to have had your parents in your life this long. Cold dead eues that WILL kill again given the chance.

I just watched the documentary...I am shocked. Mason Jenkins is a psychopath and a danger to society, his parents in particular. The way he lies about the truth of what happened, he lies over and over. His eyes have no emotion and he even laughs when telling his corrections officer. It makes me sick...he plays the victim card with his parents and they eat it up. I understand why people avoid them because what do you say to these parents? I pity his parents so much. I couldn't imagine having this happen to me, but I'm not sure I would continue a relationship with my son. Mason Jenkins needs to stay in prison for life.
Maybe he will get a university degree like Karla Homolka did on taxpayers dollar. Just disgusting! -

Mason is a sociopath, as another commenter has pointed out. It's so clear, but the mother, who works in the mental health field, doesn't see that? He's creepy. His eyes are cold and scary. He seems slow-witted. But I think I understand the parents commitment to stick with him...they love him, even though he can never love them back. They need him so they don't feel their lives have completely disintegrated. The pretense is preferable to the emptiness they'd feel without it.

Leslie fondles Mason, like he's 2 yrs old.
I can see that she favoured her son, that's as clear as the sun.
Poor Brian.
Never a peep of Jennifer, instead only what's bothering poor Mason, this day.
I really see his mother, in him.
And now his Father is in a nursing home? why isn't this public health professional wife of his keeping him at home by accessing home health care.
Yeah, I see Mason in his mother. -

Hate to say it, but I think his mother is just as ill, as he is.
And the fact that she works with the mentally ill, is the biggest joke of all.
Poor Brian .... he looks on, with a blanket in a chair, as his wife, knowing full well he can't partake, enjoys chocolate truffle cake with her awesome son ... her "Honey".
A great big kiss for him and an "I'm so happy to be here" - at the institution?!!!
Nuts! -

Well said Anonymous (Feb 1, 2015) ! Mason is a sociopath and not very intelligent at that. He has zero remorse about killing his sister in cold blood. No accident when you must reload shotgun, her killing was premeditated as was his plan for both parents had they come home separately. This monster's parents over indulge this creep for reasons that are beyond my comprehension. You can see the lack of emotion in his eyes and actions, he is very creepy.

I am totally flabbergasted at these parents. They might not care about their son killing them, but what about the rest of society. He is a spoiled brat still and given half the chance would kill his parents as soon as he got out, if they are not deceased. Also he should not be allowed to receive any inheritance from their estate, it should be given to victims of murder.watch your back. I would also like to comment that what is going on with our justice system. first of all they knew is plot but putting him in a room with them (knives) dah. ONE OTHER THING FROM WHAT I SAW THIS A HOLE IS EATING AND LIVING IN S BETTER PLACE THAN MOST LAW ABIDING CANADIANS, WHO ARE WORKING TO KEEP HIS ASS ALIVE. DISGRACEFUL

Just watched the documentary. My personal feeling is that Mason wanted his whole family dead so he could get the money. He is a piece of you know what. Mad at the world and wanted money. He should rot in prison for the rest of his life.

Just watched the documentary. All in all, it's a very sad story in the lives of this family. I agree with some of the comments that more history on Mason's childhood would have been helpful, however some of the comments are incorrect, particularly the one which stated he killed his sister essentially out of jealousy. The film explains that his plan was to first and foremost kill his father and also likely his mother. That he killed Jennifer upstairs and moved her downstairs indicated that he did not want her body to be seen by his parents immediately upon their return to the home that evening. His gun could only fire one shot at a time and needed to be reloaded before he could fire a second shot. I think his plan was thwarted when he realized that both parents would be returning home at the same time. Ultimately, he wanted the family's assets to himself. As the years have gone by, certainly I believe he has regrets and realizes the magnitude of his actions. His parents were put in an absolutely unimaginable situation and I fully understand their pain and forgiveness. They have paid the most with this crime and I think I would probably feel the same as them if I were in their situation. Mason will one day be released and most likely he will be heir to their assets. I suspect he will have difficulties back out in society and will have difficulty being able to support himself. As to the parents, I feel much compassion and wish them well. Their journey in life has proven to be more challenging than most of us will ever have to endure. There is no right or wrong answer to how they should feel and I think we all need to respect and support the path they've chosen. Much love and respect to them.
