Michelle Obama slips up, calls herself ‘single mother’
In a CNN video, Michelle Obama was speaking of the challenges of eating healthy for busy parents when she said "Believe me, as a busy single mother - or I shouldn’t say single - as a busy mother, sometimes when you’ve got a husband who is president it can feel a little single. But he’s there." As she says the words "But he's there", she flashes what seems to be a microexpression of disgust. Overall it's a fascinating glimpse of how she views her marriage and her husband. I have to disagree adamantly that this is a reflection of how she views her marriage. What you don't realize is why she made this slip. It makes perfect sense that Michelle Obama is out publicly speaking to hundreds if not thousands of people about healthy eating habits and one of the biggest targets of her speeches is likely the "busy single mothers" out there. This is part of her rhetoric and it came out like a memorized part of her speech. As a speaker, I so get this. When you repeat phrases daily, they slip out when you are talking about the subject because they are so ingrained in you. If you watch these two communicate when they are with each other, they have a very healthy marriage, without question. Healthier than 90% of the population, if you ask me.
