Zubeidat Tsarnaev
The mom of the Boston bombers has been very present in the media, mostly to say her children have been framed and there is no way they are involved - in the face of quite a bit of evidence. While there is something to be said for a mom defending her children (and being from a place where in fact the government is incredibly untrustworthy), I'm interested to know if you think she is genuine in her belief they were framed, and if you get the sense she is truly upset or if perhaps she is proud of them.

I honestly think she is in shock, confused, and can't accept what happened. What you see is confusion in the first interview manifesting itself. In the second interview below, you can see at the end that she is confused, but coming more to terms with what happened, though not yet ready to accept it. I do not think she is "proud".

Creepy. There's some real grief in her eyes at points, but the rest seems very calculated, including watching for a reaction. It looks like she's almost smiling sometimes, when she's being the most animated.

There is something off about about this woman. My instinct is that it's not due to the language barrier or motherly denial (although it could be, I'm no expert). It just seems strange that there is only one part of this interview where I truly believe that she is being honest and/or it seems that she shares something she truly believes and it's more than a little concerning. It happens when she describes being in awe of Misha, the man who potentially brain-washed and radicalized her sons into doing this heinous act:
"When Misha visited us ... he just opened our eyes, you know ... really wide about Islam. He was really, he's devoted, and he's very good, very nice man," Zubeidat Tsarnaev said.
Furthermore, when she is asked whether she really believes the whole event was staged with paint instead of blood to frame her sons, she says, "That's what I want to know, because everybody's talking about it: that this is a show, that's what I want to know. That's what I want to understand."
This is so amazingly ludicrous. Not even she can really sell this idea to us, but you get the feeling she's trying to sell it to someone. And it's not herself.
Perhaps this Misha character had some influence on this mother...
