Crystal Harris
Dateline episode aired 22May13 - something just seemed off about her demeanor and story about being raped by her husband, Shawn Harris. I'm curious to hear your thoughts.

I watched the programme in the U.K. last night, nobody here is aware of it. It is unbelievable that she has to pay him anything. This would not happen in the UK. To have to pay his legal fees is beyond insulting, maybe she should have paid a better lawyer and got him off. Unbelievable if anyone knows how I can write to an account for Crystal please tell me like a Facebook or something. I don’t expect personal details. She was incredibly brave, the programme left me traumatised and I’ve been telling everyone today, all find it hard to believe. Your Justice System is a joke. She seemed a gentle soul and I guess had she had a gun in the drawer as well as the tape recorder, it would have been pre meditated. I hope something awful happens to him and that nomwoman anywhere is stupid enough to get into a relationship with him. Good luck Crystal to you and your boys. You were terrified but brave beyond words. I hope you are happy but he’s out now, so I hope you have no fear of him. I really would like to make people here aware of your story. However tha main internet page has been taken down. I’ve searched for another means to find you. Kindest regards Gina inUak xxx

First of all, yes the tape is on the internet. Crystal had similar experiences that I had. I was actually getting ready to go somewhere when I heard what was going on. When she was delivering her testimony and the tape was playing, my eyes were glued to the tv and my body was numb. The tape and the violations that she was dealing with were bringing back repressed thoughts and feelings vividly. Men violating women also make them feel powerful. Crystal was making the money and that repulsive person must have been feeling powerless.
Going to the bathroom is a very good excuse as Shaun did not expect anything and people do use the restroom.Sometimes, I have been sneaky and got away with it. Not in a bad way. As for going to the clost and listening to the tape and smiling, this meant she was happy to have proof.
It has been awhile since I have seen the video, but I know where I need to go to pull some repressed thoughts for a journal to help deal with my PTSD.
Sometimes it is easier to have someone listen to what you hsve been through. Me telling the police in front of my mom and sister was hard.
I lived in a small town with threats of him killing me if he lost his guns because I turned him in.
I agree with Lori, but wish he had been found guilty of something else and served more time.
I could say more, but you do not have any idea how it feels to be violated.

There was brief mention of Crystal Harris tonight, 3/23/18, on Dateline and they played a short sample of the tape. If the entirety of the tape(s) is on the internet I haven't yet found it, however the only voice I heard on the small part they played was hers. Was he also on the tape? If his voice wasn't on the tape I would think he would have denied he was even there, which as I understand it, he did not.

I'd have to say, I didn't believe her either. Why didn't she go to the police? She hires some guy that makes her exercise between firing a gun? Ridiculous. If her husband was as big a deadbeat as she claims, he wouldn't come looking for her because he'd be knee deep in a mindcraft game. She didn't want to pay the lump, which I get, so she set the dufus up. Her whole "I'm a victim...how dare he" was a little much. And who gets choked and keeps saying "you're choking me...you're choking me"....I'd be saying "please stop". It was a badly written script and she wasn't the best actress. I'm not jealous of her...it just all sounded bizarre until we got to the part that was related to her having to pay him money...then it all made sense.

NO one knows what it's like to be a battered/raped woman except a battered/raped woman. Abusers are quite talented at twisting our minds and feelings until we no longer recognize ourselves, and it takes a long time to regain our sense of "self".
Shame on ANYONE out there who sides with the rapist, abuser, or violence of any kind.
So you think Crystal didn't feel or act how you think she should have? You have NO idea how you would act or feel in her shoes until you walk a mile in them even tho you may THINK you would.
Good for her for thinking that no one has the right to treat her badly because that's how ALL of us SHOULD think! And good for her for standing up and doing what she could to make her abuser pay for choosing HIS actions.
May none of you out there who are criticising this woman ever find yourselves in an abusive situation because only then will you understand. And maybe you won't act like others "expect" you to either.

Eyes for Lies I agree with. I thought the same thing when I saw it. Also game addiction compiled with depression can really escalate mental illness'

Wow,... are you serious? I ran in on my computer after seeing the I survived episode to see if she was OK realizing the bastard was out last May of this month. Here I am reading your speculations on her demeanor. No, she wasn't your typical abuse victim was she, quite rehearsed, put together and determined to tell her story. But it wasn't because she was "off" but because our society if skewed, as if reality TV has made us all experts in the Human condition. She was rehearsed because she has volunteered to retell that horrific experience again and again and I am sure every time she tells it, she relives every violation to her body, mind, and esteem. When I heard the tape, that is NO role playing that a healthy minded man would want to partake in. In court Shaun (her rapist) the words.. "I am sorry" how did you miss that with a little google research? All you have succeeded to do is make yourself and some other people here look a little more shallow. I think you should write Crystal Harris, whom is strong enough to help write a Bill and make a difference for my sisters in this world, and say your sorry as well.

I saw the "I survived" episode involving Crystal Harris for the first time tonight, although I didn't see the Frontline segment.
I don't know how individuals on this board can view a highly edited series of interviews and make a judgement of her guilt or innocence. No two victims are going to respond exactly alike. Watching the "I survived" story, she appeared to be intelligent, and well-spoken, even in the recounting of her horrible nightmare. I hope for her sake, she has taken steps to be protect herself such as having a firearm on her person at all times. It's appears her former husband does not take "no" for an answer. I can't imagine spending time behind bars softened his disposition towards her. I am curious how her children have been holding up since this mess started.

You people amaze me, blame the victim. Crystal was believable and credibility but yet you morons blame her. It sounds like a bunch of jealous people. She is successful, pretty and smart. Her ex is a loser and scumbag. That is the perfect description of you ass clowns

Her whole story was a lie. I could tell right away when I saw the Dateline story. It was so obvious!! I can't believe the husband was convicted and sent to prison!! She baited him with sex and taped it. End of story. Not saying her husband was an angel , but he never deserved prison.

I had a hard time believing her the first time he show aired. Now after watching it a second time, I immediately felt she wasn't telling the whole truth. She has a very shifty way of looking away when she is getting to the incriminating portions of her story. Also the weird gun store guy? You would trust a strange man over the police? Something isn't right here and he seem very off

Eyes for Lies, you are good. Pride is exactly what you see. I'm not a normal victim. I'm a victim in that a crime happened to me, but not typical DV mentality of feeling like crap about myself or that I'm no good. I always felt like, "how dare you do this to me?" All I wanted to do, and am continuing to try to do, is stay alive! Not only that, but my general demeanor is one of happiness and optimism, so I smile a lot. Plus, it's been more than 5 yrs since this happened to me. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know from the "subject" herself that you really nailed it. And Shawn has really lost his mind.

Oh well, I'll give up trying to decipher deception, haha. I'm really bad at it. Thanks for letting us know Eyes.

I found her believable. I think he stayed at home with the kids, lost himself, possible even started to exhibit signs of mental illness (develops in late 20s often). She knew she was in danger and wanted out, and she managed to get away from him, so there is some pride there.

I'm not good at detecting deception but I'm trying. I agree something seemed very off about her. She looked so happy in the dateline episode. She gave me weird feeling.
I saw Crystal smile when she remembered supposedly escaping in terror to the closet to secretly listen to see if she had caught the rape on tape. That should be a scary memory not something to smile about. Maybe she was smiling because she wasn't scared in that memory, but she was happy she had caught something on tape that could sound convincing to law enforcement, meaning she could have her husband framed...
What I also found very weird is that she let the gun salesman hear the tape of her rape. Aren't rape victims usually very ashamed of that they are raped? Why would she go and let people (who are not police) hear it?
I also wondered if you are so scared of your husband and you can feel something bad is going to happen, and you then make up an excuse to get to the bathroom (to turn on the recorder) why would you then quickly go back to him? Besides she already knew he wanted to have sex, but she says she hopes to record a death threat?? I would have stayed in the bathroom, lock the door, away from my scary husband. Or even better I would have made an excuse to get to a room where there is a phone and call 911, or would have tried to escape the house.
Even before I heard the defense's version at trial, I was thinking how could she have so conveniently have gotten her rape on tape, especially if I thought she was lying. My answer is that they were roleplaying in the bedroom. The rape scenario could make sense for a roleplay for a woman with a big career like hers, perhaps wanting to let go of control in the bedroom, or something like that. In any case I don't think a rape roleplay is that unbelievable a scenario as Crystal's defenders on Dateline. Lots of people love S&M and giving up control in the bedroom.
I concluded I don't believe her and that she wanted out of the marriage but did not want to pay alimony to her husband. So she framed her husband. And she kept at it after he was in jail to make sure she did not have to pay him with that new law.Anyways, Eyes, I really hope you review Crystal because I would love to know if my thinking is right.

I first saw this woman on the show, "I Survived." I thought something was false about her story then and I was even more convinced of that after seeing the Dateline coverage. Would love to have Eyes opinion!
