Bob Harrod's Daughter
Dear Eyes For Lies,
I'm a great admirer of your work, and would so appreciate it if you could take a look at a video that has me hypnotised each time I watch it, though I can't pinpoint exactly why. I'm afraid I wouldn't make it as even a wizard's bumbling apprentice - though I'd love to be.
I know you don't cover cold cases, but as this about Bob Harrod, whose case is about to air nationwide on ID TV's 'Disappeared', I thought I'd chance my luck. Dear Bob's case is bound to be at least a little hot once the show airs on Thursday, April 4th, 2013, 8pm and 11pm PT/ET.

Bob Harrod was an eighty-one-year old newlywed millionaire, who had just wed his childhood sweetheart from 60 years before. He disappeared from his Placentia, California home two days before his new wife was due to return from a trip back home to Missouri, and just before he could add her to his accounts as he intended. Bob's son-in-law was working in Bob's home that day, but the time Bob disappeared is unknown. This was in 2009.
The video shows son-in-law's wife (Bob Harrod's youngest daughter, Julie Michaels) on the morning after Bob's disappearance. She had travelled to the home to change the sheets on Bob's bed, and agreed to a spur of the moment interview. Here it is - the daughter's interview starts around 0:57 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RSV7Lhqqus
Many thanks in advance for a brilliant site, even if you are not able to look at the video,

She starts saying "he was" about 1 minute and 27 seconds in and then corrects herself and says "is just said". Not saying it can't be innocent but it is not really a great sign when someone uses past tense like that. Her and her husband also didn't participate in the Disappeared episode from what I remember which could be because she sucked at this interview and probably couldn't be trusted to do another. And it is strange that if SIL was hanging out all morning with Bob and fixing things around the house that Bob wouldn't mention the housekeeper coming by at all. The daughters also see so concerned about him not giving them all the info/ paperwork for the trust when up until the moms death, they didn't even know it or the assets existed. They were oblivious to this money their whole lives and now all of a sudden they need him to report to them on it in great detail?

i think bob was taken night before and son in law pretended he was there that morning, thats why he was so long upstairs unmaking the bed as though bob was there that morning and going to the store for a alibi for himself

I am fairly certain the daughters and son-in-law are the responsible parties for the disappearance of Bob Harrod. Contacting an attorney about assets instead of actively doing a grid search just days after he went missing. They already knew he was dead, because they did it. In the interviews, there was hardly any emotion from the sisters, the house keeper seemed more upset about it than the daughters. He was of sound mind and walked at least a mile a day according to his doctor, but one daughter stated he could hardly walk b/c of bad knees, & that he had dementia. There were many conflicting statements made by the daughters that Bob's notes contradicted. I feel bad for Fontelle, and believed her side of the story. Mostly, I feel bad for Bob. If this happened to my dad, I would hire private investigators, do anything to find out what happened, not just offer a 50k reward... They had/have millions at their disposal. I would offer a lot more to recover my Dad's remains. Money is the root of all evil, but it also has to do with the soul of a person. The youngest daughter in the above video, I didn't trust anything she said.

Did anyone chech the daughters and especially the son in law's mobile phones which may indicate where they were up to and including the day of Bob's death and beyond. Why did the son in law take so long to come back down the stairs when the housekeeper asked him to check the bedroom?

Another news coverage piece for those interested in what police are doing in 2019 on this cold case (print story, no video)

The word "cleared" in regard to family members is not used in the videos.

The changing of the locks by Fontelle was suggested by one of the Harrod daughters for Fontelle's safety. At least that is what the daughter posted.

Quoting from Eric on 2/17/19
" Maybe Bob was an asshole father who loved his money more than his daughters."
"large amounts of cash to some leech"
"he could've even possibly sexually abused them."
You're spot on Eric
Talk of finances stemmed from Fontelle demanding the checkbook, immediately upon arrival. Also, her crude graphic discussion of Bob's "performance" in the bedroom offended his family.
She has macular degeneration and doesn't drive so could NOT be suspected by daughters as disappearing their father. Within 3 days, she changed the locks and hired a Civil Litigation attorney, who made it very clear what he was after and also filled his correspondence with the Court with lies, under penalty of perjury. There is a handful of lifeless "armchair sleuths" who have been rabidly obsessed with the daughters. Amongst their "screen names" are parties directly connected to the legal battle brought on by Fontelle's attorney. She should be very proud of herself as she demanded and was paid $430 K for a three week marriage. The "leech" and her husband are who I suspect.

To JustSaying, the family *was cleared* per the videos. The sergeant on camera said the two arrested and released are persons of interest/suspects. I don't know how clearer he could have stated that on film.
Perhaps you did not view the two news videos included in the written article.
And to the rest of your opinion, so?
Does not make them POI in the eyes of PPD.
Why did Mrs. Harrod remove things of Mr Harrod so soon from the home? That doesn't make her a POI. Apparently police have far more on this case than you do. Unless you do, then let them know. There is a reward offered, and Crime Stoppers takes anon. tips. -

I have not read that the police ruled out the family. This whole arrest and release thing seems a bit hinky to me.
The daughter interviewed is pointing the finger at a younger woman and her husband. IIRC, the daughters have been saying this since right after their father's disappearance. They also cast aspersions on Fontelle. Not to mention the trashing of their father, by them, on social media after he disappeared.
What always jumped out at me was that the son-in-law had no idea the housekeeper was going to show up on the day Mr. Harrod disappeared. Funny that Bob Harrod didn't mention her coming that day while SIL was doing "odd jobs" around Bob's house.

May 2019 update, the police have ruled out family. Two of Mr Harrod's associates were arrested last month and are still considered persons of interest in what police are calling a homocide.

I honestly feel it was one of his daughter behind it. On the show they even sound money hungry. I think he was killed because the kids didn’t want him to add the wife’s name to any thing. So terribly sad.

You can see micro expression of contempt when she states she wants Fontelle to come home to her husband

Maybe Bob was an asshole father who loved his money more than his daughters. I'm certainly not condoning their behavior if they did kill the him but I can see years of pent up rage coming to the surface with the new wife situation and him giving large amounts of cash to some leech hairdresser. Hell, he could've even possibly sexually abused them. Disappeared is a good show but doesn't cover the whole story.

Daughters are behind this I’m almost certain , I say give all of them a polygraph, they probably thought he was going to leave everything to the new wife so got rid of him before he can legally, and people accusing or suspecting theirs own daughters of doing it is a good cover. Usually the last person to see the victim is usually the suspect and the news interview on YouTube with his daughter just happened to be married to the person he last was with, come on now, polygraph all of them now, even the new wife they may all be in on it.

I think the son-in-law may have been involved or maybe the ex-barber?? The family wanted the new wife out before Mr. Harrod disappeared. They were so dogged about that trust--and their mother, Mr. Harrod's wife, had recently died. They didnt know what Bob Harrod was worth until his wife, their mother, died. Then things got heated over that trust. They quickly began going after his assets, monies despite the fact he was married. All of them were shell shocked by his disappearance but were lucid enough to immediately call an attorney, begin trying to cut Mrs. Fontelle out and minimize her importance. Their father loved her. He was-by his notes, etc- planning a life with her. They have fixated on her, their father's money & assets and remain angry. He would not want that. Police cant reveal too much, understandly so, so Im not sure what they learned about the ex-barber or the son-in-law or that purported suspicious SVU seen slowly driving past the Harrod home.

Long shot scenario: Bob really thought Fontelle never tried contacting him when he was in the Marines, and he decided to get his revenge after all these years, disappearing in the nature with money put in a tax shelter for that purpose and living an even more hermit life.

Also: imagine Bob used the money of the will/trust to loan/give it to somebody else (not necessarily the hairdresser) than the daughters as he could have been supposed to, he could have asked for a refund of the loan after the financial meeting and/or somebody could have been pissed.
How many cars were inspected?
-
JC commented
Even more so after a recent six months period where the daughters did not have much contact with their father. Also great that they made repairs to Bob's house after that period and just after the financial meeting. The hairdresser has a potential motive.

I'm really impressed by the SIL ability to remember the car of the hairdresser of his father-in-law.
