Paul Cortez
I know he's already convicted but I can't find anything on your site on the story at all, even the old stories, there is so much activity to get a retrial for him and so much work and money being raised.
My daughter and I feel he's innocent but one spot of me has gotten very skeptical. Please tell us if it's true.

I think the boyfriend she lived with killed her. It’s sad they always put the Latino in jail. I don’t think Paul did it. Why didn’t they look at all her customers. And all her boyfriends? She was a topless dancer and your only going for one person. And those were shoes not boots. They only put him in jail over a video they couldn’t even see clearly.

He is guilty and its scary how many people don't realize that he is guilty because the very dishonest, very biased (obviously) "Free Paul Cortez" sites have enough evidence in them to donate money without doing any independent research. I think you don't want to write about Paul Cortez (but you did write your thoughts about Anne Bender) because he's a controversial figure and you don't want a bunch of post-pubescent lemmings to tear you apart. Please find the courage to write about him as the name of his victim has been dragged through the mud and the real story is that a manipulative, highly narcissistic man slaughtered a young lady after harassing her for months.

People question Catherine's relationship with Paul because they didn't hear about it, but did they hear about the other guys she was dating?? As she hid a lot of what she did in her life, maybe she also hid the fact that she was dating multiple people. Not that this proves or disproves who the murderer was, but maybe the fact that her friends were all friends of david's helped them to turn a blind eye to what is so blazingly obvious, or at least gives more than a question of a doubt in paul's ability to commit this murder in this timeline. David's lies alone should cast a shadow of a doubt.

He knew the time she would work on sundays and as he said in the 48hrs interview 'he went down to see if he could talk her out of going to work'. While walking near her place, he likely became enraged when he saw david leaving the apartment when he thought david was no longer around and it was 'just them' in his obsessive mind. And she was becoming concerned over his behavior for a month or 2 prior to her death but still kept in slight contact. Her best friend mentioned in the first 48 hrs episode how he may have 'loved' her but she only thought of him as a friend. Catherines mother even testified to catherine calling her one day and saying paul was probably gay. Not that it matters that he is, but shows she didn't have a 'love' for him in THAT way.

Anonymous, I apologize, I have never seen your replies before. Whose blonde hair is in her hand and how did Paul know to get in there for the few minutes that the other guy was getting his car?
I myself didn't really know how to block people out and cut them off entirely until I had a very frightening guy bother me for so many years, relentlessly so. I had no idea that she was afraid of him, why didn't they bring that up in either of the 48 Hour Mystery episodes or the book? It's not good to leave that out, it's pretty important information, in my book!! Also, I don't blame her for being hesitant to bother with NYPD, I would feel the same.

Ask any question you want to me.. i am a close friend of Catherines. There are no wrongdoings with this conviction. We all want more than to have Catherines killer in prison and we all know that it was indeed paul.. she was afraid of him for months leading up to her murder. . Even spoke about getting a restraining order at one point But couldn't get herself to do that because she said was afraid of NYPD's... lol.. she said after watching law n order she didn't want to enter a precinct. . She was from the midwest. Who could blame her for that. And being the sweetheart she was, continued being nice to paul and didn't completely blow him off because it's not in her nature to to that

He is definitely guilty of this crime... He still has no alibi to this day.. He only brought up him being near her apt that night when he took the stand... In his statements he says he was 'in his room at home calling clients'.. and surprisingly that same night was the FIRST time he ever missed a band practice. . And the fingerprint was attached to a handprint which was clearly from the killer....
Paul also gives a semi 'cconfession' in the jailhouse interview with cbs admitting that he went down to her apt that night to try and convince her not to go to work

I'm very sad you declined this case even though i fully understand why. I've 1st read about this case 2 or 3 yrs ago and it never ceased to haunt me. At 1st, i was totally conviced of Paul's innocence and i think that's why it hauted me. As of today, i'm not so sure anymore. Maybe you helped me to detect deceiption, even incounsciously. If there is a thing i've learned by reading your amazing blog, it's there's is no smoke if there ain't a fire.
Even though i've read and seen almost everything available on the internet regarding this case, i've never found any video of Paul Cortez before the trial. There is an excellent interview with Mrs Moriaty, but it was post trial too.
There is however, a 911 call placed by David, Catherine Wood's rommate.
Here is the link if ever you might be interrested to listen to it:

That's true, the press ripped him apart so he stayed away making things harder. Do you have an article on here about how it affects the clues to deceit? I thought I saw it somewhere on here in a high stakes vs low stakes thing. I'm looking, thanks for responding!!
BTW, I love drawing eyes in my artwork. I dunno why, I just love it.
